Security Tips for Victims of Abuse Viewing this Web Site |
When you visit
sites on the internet, the computer you are using keeps a
record of the pages you have viewed. If you do not want others
who share the computer with you to know which sites you have
visited, there are several steps you can take.
1. Determine which web browser you are using (the most popular
ones are Netscape and Internet Explorer). The browser name
is found on the top bar of your computer screen when you are
online.
2. Follow the instructions below once you have finished viewing
any pages of interest on this web site.
NETSCAPE
- Under the "Edit" drop down menu, choose "Preferences".
- On the bottom right side of the Preferences box, click
on the button "Clear History" AND the button "Clear
Location Bar".
- In the white area on the left side of the Preferences
box, double-click "Advanced".
- In the list under Advanced, select "cache".
- Click the button "Clear memory cache" AND "Clear
disk cache".
- Click OK.
- Close the Netscape program.
INTERNET EXPLORER
- Under the "Tools" drop down menu, choose "Internet
Options"
- Choose the "General" tab in the Preferences
box.
- Under "temporary Internet files" click the
"delete files" button.
- Under "History" click the "clear history"
button.
- Close the Internet Explorer program.
AOL
- Click on "My AOL"
- Choose "Preferences"
- Click on the "Toolbar" icon
- Click the button "Clear History Now"
OTHER BROWSERS
- Try using the directions above for your browser program.
If these do not apply to your program, try searching in
the browser’s Help menu for instructions on how to
clear or erase the cache and history.
